College History

Mutare Teachers’ College opened its doors as a primary teacher training college in 1956 with 6 lecturers and 50 students training the PTL course. In 1972 the T 2 and T4 courses were introduced. In 1980 the college was conferred associate-ship status with the University of Zimbabwe. Primary teacher training was phased out in 1991. The college has also successfully run international secondary teacher training programmes for students from Namibia, Equatorial Guinea and Mozambique.
